St. Clair, MI to Detroit, MI

We picked up Janine and Kristy early Friday morning at the Detroit airport and headed straight for the Ford plant in Detroit where they manufacture Ford F150 trucks. Since we have a Ford F150 truck it was a lot of fun to see them making them. We got to see all the different systems assembled. It made you want to pick your truck off the assembly line. Unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures of the assembly line. So, we have a few less pictures to share!!!

At the end of the tour, we got to see some classic antique cars, which really thrilled Grant. Lastly, we got to see what Grant really would like to have for his next truck. It's the Ford F150 Raptor. He couldn't get enough of looking at that truck. Dream on...

Next we went to the Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford complex. It was an amazing living history museum, very well done, with multiple docents in every building. Ford established Greenfield Village somewhere the 20s or 30s with that goal in mind. He transported the home he grew up in to the Village along with many other buildings. There was a reproduction of his first workshop along with the Quadricycle, which was his very first attempt at a car. Since he worked with and admired Thomas Edison, there were a whole bunch of buildings real and reproductions related to, Edison including a workshop and a power plant, and Edison's grandparent's home. There were many many other transported and reproduction buildings. In addition, there were Model T's driving people all over the village. Every time you looked up, there was another Model T passing you on the road. It looked like a town that had lots of automobile might have looked in the 20's or 30's. It would have probably taken all day to see the whole village.

Grant loved the train and the roundhouse and turntable there. It was one of the prettiest round houses we have ever seen.

There was also a crafting set of buildings with a blacksmith shop, weaver, tinsmith, granery, 3 sawmills, and a glassmaking shop. Janine got to make a pulled glass flower. It should get home about the same time we do.

We would like to have spent more time there. We stayed until it closed.

After that, we went to Michael's so Janine could crochet an afgan on the trip. Kristin is knitting socks.
